There has only been one that was blocked by a tree down, which I certainly can’t blame Garmin for! I would highly recommend the XT for adventurous riders.Please note that I have now placed the GPSMAP 276Cx on my Recommed List based upon the latest updates, v3.60, to the software. I’m more confident in trying new tracks and roads now, as I can see where they should lead to/link up. The level of track detail is great, viewable right down to some of the single tracks and mountainbike trails in my area.

The ETA times and ambient temp is a great asset but I’m not really using the fuel useage function as my bike has a fuel gauge and trip meters. I managed to map out a couple of my favorite loops pretty quickly to get used to it.

It’s easy to learn how to create your own routes/tracks directly on the device and then edit them during or after a ride (not while actually riding of course). The supplied ball mount is okay to get started but I imagine most riders will choose a dedicated mount for their needs and bike from another supplier. Battery life and mobile data concerns of the phone based apps are now obsolete and my phone goes into flight mode safely in a pocket until I need it. Most of my riding is backroads and gravel track adventure-touring, so the detailed preloaded topo maps are great for this. Our work trucks have had Zumos for a year or so and they work brilliantly. I’ve been a Garmin user for years with eTrex, Montana and InReach handheld devices all performing well. After fiddling around for a couple of years using iPhone nav apps on my moto, I made the jump to a dedicated navigation device with the Zumo XT.
